18th Edition (BS 7671 requirements for electrical installations)
City & Guilds 18th Edition (BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations)
The City & Guilds 18th Edition course provides essential knowledge of the current IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), which set the national standard for electrical installations. This qualification ensures that individuals understand the latest safety requirements, industry standards and best practice for electrical work.
In the Falkland Islands, it is compulsory for anyone undertaking electrical installation work to hold the 18th Edition qualification. It demonstrates that you are up to date with current regulations and are able to work in accordance with recognised safety standards.
It is important to note, however, that the 18th Edition is not a full electrical qualification and does not in itself make you a recognised electrician. Rather, it confirms your knowledge and understanding of the wiring regulations. To be recognised as a qualified electrician, further training, practical experience and additional qualifications are required.
This course is suitable for:
-
Practising electricians wishing to update their knowledge
-
Individuals involved in electrical installation work
-
Contractors and maintenance personnel
-
Those needing to demonstrate compliance with current regulations
By completing the 18th Edition course, learners ensure they are working safely, legally and in line with current industry standards. Please see course calendar for next available course or email cvillegas@college.ac.fk or phone 27133 and ask for extension 2404.
Portable appliance Testing (PAT Testing)
The City & Guilds PAT Testing course provides the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) safely and effectively. This qualification covers the inspection and testing of electrical appliances to ensure they are safe for continued use in the workplace.
PAT testing forms an important part of maintaining electrical safety and complying with health and safety legislation. The course gives learners an understanding of electrical hazards, the legal responsibilities of employers and employees, and how to correctly carry out visual inspections and electrical tests using appropriate equipment.
In the Falkland Islands, while this qualification does not make you a qualified electrician, it demonstrates that you are competent to undertake portable appliance testing in line with recognised safety standards. It is particularly suitable for those responsible for maintaining electrical equipment in workplaces, rental properties, schools or public buildings.
This course is suitable for:
-
Maintenance staff
-
Facilities managers
-
Landlords and property managers
-
Health and safety representatives
-
Individuals responsible for workplace equipment
By completing the City & Guilds PAT Testing course, learners gain the confidence and competence to carry out inspections and testing safely, helping to reduce risk and ensure electrical equipment remains safe for use.
